Louise is a 39-year-old admissions officer at Columbia University in New York City. She is still haunted by the memory of her high school boyfriend, who tragically died in a car accident when they were teenagers. One day, a prospective student named F. Scott Feinstadt submits his application, and Louise is shocked to discover that he is the spitting image of her late boyfriend. Despite her initial reservations, Louise becomes infatuated with F. Scott and begins a passionate affair with him. As their relationship deepens, Louise becomes increasingly obsessed with the idea that F. Scott is the reincarnation of her lost love. However, as she delves deeper into F. Scott's past, she uncovers dark secrets that threaten to shatter the illusion of their perfect romance. As Louise grapples with the truth about F. Scott's identity, she must confront her own unresolved grief and come to terms with the past in order to find true happiness in the present.
