Circumstance is a gripping drama set in contemporary Iran, where two teenage girls, Atafeh and Shireen, navigate their complex and repressive society. Atafeh comes from a wealthy and liberal family, while Shireen is orphaned and taken in by Atafeh's family. The two girls form a close bond and find solace in their shared love for underground parties, music, and illicit activities, which provide an escape from the limitations imposed on them by the oppressive regime. As they explore their sexuality and identity, they become increasingly entangled in a dangerous love affair. Atafeh's brother, Mehran, who has recently embraced fundamentalist beliefs, becomes obsessed with controlling the girls' behavior, leading to a tense and dangerous power struggle within the family. As their personal freedoms are threatened, Atafeh and Shireen must make difficult choices about their future and their relationship, in a society that seeks to control every aspect of their lives. The film explores themes of love, rebellion, and the constant struggle for personal freedom in a society filled with constraints and oppression.
